Bradford Teaching Hospital is a teaching hospital, including the Yorkshire Auditory Implant Service (YAIS).
The team assesses, offers cochlear implantation (CI), and provides long term post implant rehabilitation for severe to profoundly deaf children and adults from across Yorkshire and surrounding areas.
The Service presently supports over 1000 patients who have received CIs.
YAIS works in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Leeds to provide supervision of CI related projects for students working towards MSc Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
Projects to date include the development and validation of an abbreviated version of the SSQ-P (an outcome measure used to assess benefit provided by hearing intervention in the paediatric population), a study examining the prediction of outcomes for pre-lingually deaf CI users and an investigation of factors contributing to successful hearing preservation following implant surgery.
